Alcohol consumption is one of the main factors in the occurrence of various diseases, premature mortality and disability around the world in the age group from 15 to 59 years. According to the World Health Organization's Global status report on alcohol and health 2018, about 3 million people die each year from the harmful use of alcohol worldwide, accounting for 5.3% of all deaths. According to Rosstat, in 2019, 47,427 people died from alcohol-related causes in Russia, which is 2.6% of the total number of deaths. At the same time, the most vulnerable to harm from alcohol consumption are groups of the population with a low socio-economic status. Although the specific mechanisms of the influence of socioeconomic status on health are still not completely clear, it cannot be denied that alcohol consumption is associated with socioeconomic status. Thus, understanding the relationship between socioeconomic status and alcohol consumption can help shape government policies to protect low-status groups. The purpose of this work is to find the relationship between alcohol consumption and the socio-economic status of the working-age population of Russia. The study made it possible to find a partial relationship between alcohol consumption and socioeconomic status. The results of the econometric analysis allow to formulate recommendations for reducing alcohol consumption among the working-age population. These measures are associated with the impact on socio-economic status in order to reduce the likelihood of alcohol consumption and its amount.
