As stated, this works aims to identify the role of sports diplomacy in the Russian Federation, Brazil and the USA at the present stage. This paper seeks to understand the long-term perspective of sports diplomacy. For this purpose, this compares the cases of three countries: Russia, Brazil and the United States, and also develops a generalized concept for the whole approach. To achieve the goal, this work, based upon the study of legal sources of documents, articles, act materials, interviews, engages qualitative methods and quantitative methods. Conducting the analysis of various levers of sports diplomacy, which are actively used by the United States, Russia and Brazil, finds out their effectiveness in terms of soft power. The study attempts to present the current picture of sports diplomacy ahead of the biggest sports mega-event - the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.
