Historically Brazil played a significant role in participating in joint projects and deepening multilateral cooperation within the BRICS. However, this might change due to the change in power in 2018. New elected president challenged the advisability of Brazil’s membership during his campaign and claimed that if necessary, his country is ready to withdraw. There are a lot of studies on the question of the development of BRICS, but the problem of changing priorities for Brazil remains unclear. This study aims to determine whether or not new Brazilian authorities transformed the country’s status in the organization. To fulfill the purpose of this paper, a comparative analysis will be conducted based on the information and statistical data obtained through a variety of primary and secondary data sources. This research seeks to extend already existing studies on the development of BRICS and engagement in multilateral projects and further shed light on relatively recent events in the scope of BRICS.
