Communicative Strategies of Discreditation and Glorification of a Politician: Comparative Analysis of the Russian and English Media Discourses

The paper deals with linguistic and psychological means of creating the image of a politician which form the communicative strategies of glorification and discreditation. The paper is aimed at investigating the means of implementation of the glorification and discreditation communicative strategies as well as at identifying cross-cultural differences between the English and Russian speaking cultures. The paper gives a comprehensive account of the main linguistic units which make up the communicative strategies of glorification and discreditation. The paper contains a comparative analysis of the Russian and English media texts which concentrate on constructing an image of a politician. The language material of the paper is made up of the articles published in such newspapers as The Atlantic, The Economist, The New York Times, the Echo of Moscow news feed and the Channel One official website.
