Transnational Terrorism in the XXI Century and its Place in the Global Security Complex: ISIS as a case Study

International terrorism is one of the main modern global threats. Identifying the causes, characteristics and specifics of transnational terrorism is an important scientific task. The purpose of this study is to determine the place and role of transnational terrorism in the global security complex, for which the example of the terrorist group ISIL is used. However, the study would be incomplete without assessment of the current system of international security. The formation, evolution and specifics of the global security complex, the role and place of transnational terrorism in this system, both in general and in the case of ISIS, were considered. The result of the study is identification the specific features of transnational terrorism, both inherent in ISIS and not, as well as assessment the significance of these features for the role of transnational terrorism in the entire complex of global security.
