The Role of ASEAN in Ensuring Regional Security in the Asian-Pacific Region at the Present Stage

The current situation in the international arena is characterized by the emergence of new security threats, such as the threat to biosafety, cybersecurity, migration crises, the coronacrisis. These problems are prominent in the Asia-Pacific Region (APR). And one of the international organizations of the Asia-Pacific region, claiming a central role in ensuring security, is the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN). The purpose of this work is to demonstrate which role ASEAN plays in ensuring regional security in the APR at the present stage. The theoretical basis of this work is neoclassical realism and the theory of regional security complexes (RSC) of the Copenhagen School of International Relations. The analysis made it possible to comprehensively study the influence of the US-China conflict, the internal structure and principles of ASEAN on the foreign policy of the unification in the region.
