The election of Donald Trump has significantly changed the U.S. trade policy. During his presidency the US left the established ideals of free trade and chose to follow the aggressive protectionism instead. Even close US allies were also under the gun of Trump's trade turn. The main goal of US trade policy under Trump administration was to reduce the trade deficit. At the same time, the EU constituted one of the largest contributor to this deficit. This in turn makes the European Union one of the targets of the new US trade policy. D. Trump initiated the introduction of the tariffs limiting EU imports to the US which caused the retaliatory measures and deterioration of the relations between the EU and US. In the last presidential election in 2020, Trump was not elected for his second term. Democrat Biden came to power. However, the new president will have to face Trump's legacy. This paper analyzes the changes in the political relations between the EU and the United States under Trump and estimates how these changes may affect US trade policy towards the EU after Trump's presidency.
