The phenomenon of the current refugee crisis has been studied by many scientists both in Russia and abroad. The issue of a significant refugee influx to the Italian Republic remains a major point of tension in the EU-Italy relations and bilateral relations of Italy and other member states. This paper focuses on the interconnection between Italian Republic and European Union on migrant and refugee issue. First, we will try to identify, according to which agreements (bilateral or intra-European) and regulations (international or internal) migration policy is implemented in the EU and in Italy. Second, we will attempt to define how the 2018 Italian general election and the following rise to power of “yellow-green” coalition has affected migration policy of the Italian Republic and interconnection of this country with supranational association in order to handle refugee influx. This paper seeks to identify the influence of the migration policy of the European Union, especially regarding Italy, on the alignment of political forces within the South European republic. To achieve this goal, comprehensive survey concerning Italy-EU relations on migrant issue will be conducted. We will also try to analyze bilateral agreements and international legal acts regarding refugees and irregular migrants
