Educational Programme: Journalism (Bachelor)

Year of Graduation: 2021

The paper relates to a topical problem of spoilers, that are widespread in today’s media landscape. There has not been an unambiguous conclusion whether spoilers are harmful for our perception of narrative in Spoilers Studies yet. Moreover, previous research examined spoilers and their effect from a psychological perspective rather than studying them also as a complex cultural, narrative, cognitive and media phenomenon. To understand spoiler phobia, what negative impact spoilers have and how it is correlated with media events we analyze cases from the video game and film industries. The results of the academic paper can be useful for media researchers, psychologists, culturologists, literary scholars as well as for professionals from the entertainment industry.
