Prospects for Development of Sino-Indian Relations within BRICS

Educational Programme: International Relations: European and Asian Studies (Master)

Year of Graduation: 2021

Since the beginning of the 21st century, the rise of emerging markets has led to significant changes in the system of international relations. However, at the same time, international institutions did not demonstrate corresponding changes. It was in this context that developing countries began to cooperate to increase the weight of their voice and the BRICS cooperation mechanism was created. As the largest developing countries and the founding countries of BRICS, China and India have achieved outstanding achievements through BRICS cooperation. However, it cannot be denied that in recent years, due to border conflicts between the two countries, unilateralism of the USA, and problems within BRICS, there are new challenges in their relations. According to the author, Sino-Indian relations have been characterized as a dualism of competition and cooperation, but cooperation always prevails over the competition. BRICS, as of today, is, for both India and China, an important political instrument that provides an opportunity for dialogue between these countries on financial and economic issues, both regionally and globally. In order to strengthen their cooperation and improve bilateral relations, both sides should strive for unity and try to resolve conflicts and frictions. Keywords: BRICS cooperation mechanism, Sino-Indian relations, BRICS countries
