This paper covers the development of a measuring module of the railroad bed control unit designed to detect external defects of the railroad bed. The hardware-software complex of the module is located on the automated railcar. The module includes developed optical and ultrasonic intellectual measuring transducers to detect defects on the whole upper horizontal surface of the rail head. The Raspberry Pi 4 Model B single-board computer was selected as the module's control unit. Milandr K1986BE92QI microcontroller was chosen as the control unit of intellectual measuring transducers. Modbus RTU was chosen as the data communications protocol between the control unit and the intelligent measuring transducers. In the course of the work, the requirements for the developed module were formulated, its structural diagram and operation algorithm were developed.
