The Golden Age of Spanish literature is inextricably linked with the Baroque era. This period played a special role not only in the history of Spanish literature, but in the world literature as well. One of the most prominent figures of this era is Francisco de Quevedo (1580-1645). Most of his works were written at difficult time, when the Spanish Empire was going through a period of decline, caused by military, political and economic failures. They found their reflection in the works of Quevedo, which, regardless of the variety of genres, vividly convey not only the contradictory nature of baroque literature, but also the author's genuinely patriotic feelings, caused by the crisis in the country. Such feelings were inherent in many Spanish figures of that time. This paper is based on a detailed study and analysis of Francisco de Quevedo’s political works. In the context of this study, they are considered historical sources that can shed light on a particular socio-political aspect – the representation of royal power in the era of the decline of the Spanish monarchy. In the course of this study, Quevedo’s articles will be considered not only from a historical point of view, but also from the perspective of the place they occupy in Quevedo's creative work.
