Master's dissertation "Tendencies in the Realisation of English-Russian and English-Lettonian Language Contacts in the Sphere of Media Services" includes 125 pages and 133 sources. Subject of study: forms and methods of translation of English terms specific to media services used for adaptation of the abovementioned services. The aim of the study is to identify tendencies in the translation of English terms specific to media services, based on the analysis of textual material on the abovementioned services. Research methods: categorization of empirical data, comparative analysis of English texts and their Russian and/or Latvian versions. This study investigates the manifestations of English-Russian and English-Lettonian language contacts on fourteen media services in order to determine tendencies in their realisation. The established cases of language contacts were identified as lexical interference and, consequently, were described in terms of types and mechanisms of borrowing, reasons for borrowing and the degree of assimilation. As a result, the degree of intensity of English-Russian and English-Lettonian language contacts was established based on the type of media services. General tendencies in the realisation of language contacts in the process of Russian and Latvian adaptation of media services were identified. Practical significance of the dissertation: the results of this study can be used as a part of practical course of translation for the purpose of developing courses, conducting lectures and seminars.
