Semantics and Pragmatics of the Proper Noun Goldilocks in Contemporary English Discursive Practices

This paper focuses on the semantics and pragmatics of the precedent name Goldilocks. In Russian linguistics, precedent names are a type of proper names which are associated with a popular event or text and can be used both in their direct and transferred meaning. Precedent name Goldilocks is widely used in occasional slang phrases as well as in scientific terminology and other types of contemporary English discourse. This paper aims to analyze various ways the precedent name Goldilocks can be applied, the frequency and patterns of these applications. The analysis also includes direct and transferred meanings as well as the mechanism of metaphorization.
