What is contemporary art? Creative workshop for children aged 7-10. This book aims to familiarise children aged 7-10 with contemporary art in form of a creative how-to manual. The structure of the book spread includes: illustrations of works of art from a certain style or century, a brief introduction to the art technique and technologies, features of the work of a particular artist. Each task contains a list of tools, materials and accessories. In many tasks, children are offered illustrations for the exercises or sample images of parts or fragments of works. In addition, there is a step-by-step description and sequence for children's creative work with examples and a final result of the work. The spreads are artistically designed, the images are chosen with consideration of a particular age, which are aimed to attract children’s attention, engage them in order to complete the assignments. The examples given make it easier to complete the task, but do not force copying them.To do this, there are some tips and arrows that lead attention from one object to another and stimulate children's attention. Tasks are compiled in a playful way, the author also conducts a conversation on the content of the work. For the majority of junior schoolchildren, lifestyle changes — studies and learning take most of the time. At this age the old knowledge is being actively transformed and new skills are acquired. New interests emerge. Individual physical development takes place. During this development of the child’s personality growth the important factors are: self-awareness, self-esteem, motivations, emotions and feelings. In the process of educational activity, they form a variety of motives: educational, social, moral, cognitive. At the same time, the opinion of others is of great importance. During such a period, a wide variety of interests arises, including interests in drawing. With the development of feelings, a sense of beauty arises, the joy of inspiration and emotions start to develop. During this period of growing up, a will is formed, and children have to obey the requirements, usually contrary to personal desires, and learn to manage themselves. Along with the development of personality, cognitive development takes place, when attention, perception, memory and thinking start to evolve. All these factors are interrelated and depend on the formation of each other. Children perceive better an emotional material, which grabs their attention. At that time children pay attention to what is the most interesting to them. Therefore, more complex categories appear such as comparison, correlation and comprehension, generalization and memorization. Children learn to compare, generalize, make groups according to a given educational material. The author took into account the psychological and pedagogical characteristics of junior schoolchildren while developing materials of the book. The usage of colorful images, bright accents aids to achieve it. In addition, the texts are constructed in an accessible way for children to understand, the tasks attract the children’s interest and give rise to a desire for artistic activity. Texts about artists and directions of creativity are constructed in a comprehensible way. There are exercises, tips, pointers, sequence of steps for making working and learning with the book easy and enjoyable. Suggested lists of materials helps to prepare for the assignment. Chosen materials aid in formation of knowledge about artistic perception, analysis and comparison, practical activities, memorizing artistic terms, the development of techniques and technologies for performing tasks with the use of new materials and devices. Such presentation of the book material actively affects the younger student and allows to master the material of the how-to manual, develop cognitive interest and acquire artistic skills for successful creative practices of children.
