Development Prospects of Alipay and WeChat Pay in Northwestern Region of Russia: Obstacles and Opportunities

This paper is dedicated not only to the description of China’s payment systems in general, numbers of usage in Russia, but also to the analysis of its profitability in Russian business and the potential perspectives of digital yuan. Speaking about Russia, on probation spheres where Alipay and WeChat Pay are applied can be divided into two main tracks: business working with Chinese tourists (hotels, shops, restaurants) and business that work with partners from China. The goal of using Alipay or WeChat Pay in these spheres is the same: to make business more profitable. Yet, there are a lot of distinctions such as methods of acquiring or influence of coronavirus. Analysis of these distinctions on the example of Northwestern region is a core objective of this paper. Speaking about the level of tourism and business specifics, Russian cities are very diverse, so for better understanding of current situation the region is a perfect example, where prosperous tourism cohabits with a big number of businesses with in various spheres.
