Victimblaming is a rather controversial phenomenon for Russian society, which is hardly studied by Russian lawyers. Today, the issue of victim blaming has become a hot topic of discussion due to its direct connection with violent crimes, in particular, rape, domestic violence and battery. In such crimes, in most cases, responsibility for the act lies with the victim, which allows the perpetrators to escape punishment. Victimblaming in all its manifestations is also observed in the media, in particular on federal channels, when the behavior and appearance of a victim of sexual harassment is condemned by society, and the role of the rapist in this act is deliberately belittled. As a result, society and law enforcement agencies turn a blind eye to a large number of crimes, and victims of violence are afraid to report the crime committed against them, fearing public condemnation and censure.
