Formation of Intercultural Competence in Teaching Foreign Languages on Film Material (German)

This study is based on the idea that films can be used as a main tool to form intercultural competence in language teaching. Intercultural competence is one of the leading ones nowadays, due to globalization and removal of boundaries between cultures and, moreover, as one of the main goals of studying a language is to be able to communicate and understand people from foreign cultures. The objectives of the thesis are: to analyze theoretical approaches to intercultural competence; to study the appropriateness of the use of films; to develop film selection criteria; and to conduct a Learning Experience-survey and analyze it. The main goal of the study is to prove the value of feature films in foreign language teaching. The results of the research may contribute to the development of pedagogy based on intercultural competence and methodology enabling it with the help of feature films.
