Numerous studies in Victorian literature reveal ample research in Victorian sage writing. Nevertheless, the majority of these studies do not pay close attention to the historical connection between Victorian sage writing and Common Sense philosophy. Therefore, the lack of a firmer reference point mitigates the chance to comprehensively analyze Victorian Sage texts. With the help of contextual and comparative analysis, this paper studies the language of Victorian Sage writing on the example of Thomas Carlyle’s “Sartor Resartus”. The paper aims to outline the characteristics, analyze the peculiarities of Thomas Carlyle’s work “Sartor Resartus” in the context of Victorian Sage Writing and Common Sense Philosophy and further contribute to a newer interpretation of the book. Moreover, the study aims to showcase how the findings can relate to a better understanding of the genre in general and how it can be applied to the further development of the Victorian sage discourse. Keywords: common sense philosophy, victorian sage writing, sartor resartus, victorian discourse, literary analysis.
