English, being an official language of the United Kingdom, has dozens of variations across the country. British historical events and folklore have become most popular in the film industry, and the linguistic representation of the spoken language seems to be pretty accurate. The TV series “Outlander” is based on important historical events between England and Scotland. Claire, the main character, travels back in time and finds herself in the 18th century in Scottish Highlands. Thus, this paper aims to identify whether the representation of the English and Scottish dialects in the television series “Outlander” is accurate. The study includes language development in England and Scotland, the features of the dialects and finally, the analysis of character’s speech. The research results have shown that the representation of the Scottish dialect is accurate; simultaneously, the series failed to show English dialects properly.
