The fundamental question of this study is whether the practice of regular fasting is accompanied by positive psychological effects. The theoretical part of the dissertation investigates the concept of fasting and its purposes, the accompanying physiological processes and metabolic changes, the psychological effects during the practice of fasting, as well as scientific methods for identifying them. The empirical part consists of qualitative research involving 10 respondents who regularly practice long-term or short-term fasting. The interpretation of the results obtained is carried out under the concept of the four existential fundamental motivations. Based on our research, we identified the key values of fasting practice, built a sequence of volitional processes, synthesized the structure of experience during practice, and discovered the psychological effects that are the consequences of regular practice. Thus, we received a positive answer to the above research question.
