Educational Programme: Foreign Languages and Intercultural Communication (Bachelor)

Year of Graduation: 2021

With the advent of integration and cultural exchange, adequate professional communication in foreign languages is becoming a topical issue. Over the last decade language learning objectives and efficient curriculum for foreign language training have been gaining importance. Language competence starts to be interpreted as a key factor and even an instrument for ensuring quality of specialised tertiary education that would meet needs of different stakeholders. Since this issue has been barely addressed, the need for further research with the view of designing a new systemic model of language training is critical. The current study aims at developing a model for language training that would serve as a substantial constituent of professional training quality. To that end, a number of methods of research were used: the analysis of Russian and foreign literature, content analysis of curricula and learning materials applied for teaching English on the programme «World Economy and International Affairs» at HSE, as well as qualitative analysis of the students’ assessment of teaching during a 2019-2020 period. The findings may have significant practical value for improving existing practices of foreign language training and introducing integrative interdisciplinary strategy into pedagogical process. The results of research may contribute to the creation of a model for foreign language training at the university in non-linguistic educational programmes. Key words: specialised tertiary education, model for foreign language training, professional training quality, language competence, interdisciplinary approach, ESP, CLIL.
