Scaling a Project Management System Based on Agile Methodologies

Student: Rechmedin Semen

Supervisor: Olga Nikolaevna Ilyina

Faculty: Graduate School of Business

Educational Programme: Business Administration (Bachelor)

Year of Graduation: 2021

Modern conditions for the implementation of projects are characterized by rapid variability. The ability to adapt is a determining factor in the success of a project. Among the possible ways to manage projects, there are agile methodologies, whose main advantage is the ability to quickly make changes. Due to this feature, many companies are trying to apply and scale a flexible project management system. However, a control system that works well for a group of five to nine people does not function well for large sizes without modification. Teams do not always meet the needs of Agile, making it difficult to implement Agile in projects with larger teams and more complexity. Every day the number of companies that are trying to scale the flexible project management system is increasing, which shows the practical relevance of this work. Amazon is now actively scaling up, and at 3M, according to senior manager Tammy Sparrow, "agile deployment has already accelerated product shipments and released a beta app six months earlier than originally planned." The purpose of the work is to explore ways of scaling the Agile approach in organizations and to provide recommendations for companies solving the problem of scaling. As a result, in this work, the main theoretical tools for scaling were studied, possible difficulties were considered on the experience of real companies, and the results that have been achieved by these transformations are analyzed. In addition, based on the identified difficulties, recommendations were formed for future companies
