Preterite and Perfect in English and German Bibles of the Early 16th Century

The study deals with the grammatical norms of the use of such past tense forms as the preterite and the perfect in the sixteenth century. The paper describes the history of the preterite and the perfect and characterizes the modern grammatical norms. The aim of the research is to contrast the tense usage norms in the Early Modern period on the basis of William Tyndale's (1535) and Martin Luther's (1545) Bible translations. The main research methods are contrastive and contextual analysis of the Bible translations.
