The work is devoted to the study of open science and solidarity based on it. The purpose of the study was to determine the possibility of open science to be the basis for solidarity among scientists in Russian universities. To achieve this goal, we use qualitative research methods, the conduct and analysis of 15 semi-formalized interviews. Based on the data obtained, the necessary conditions for solidarity were analyzed in terms of the availability of knowledge about the concept of open science, belief in the possibility of its implementation and in its correctness. Moreover, a whole set of sustainable practices of open science on the part of scientists was discovered, and the motivation to participate in these practices was determined, the basis of which is the economic aspect. The peculiarity of the work is that the view on open science was formed through the theory of solidarity, which made it possible to form the author's vision of the concept and focus on the sociological understanding of open science through the scientific ethos and utopianism. The materials of the work can be used in the study of problems of science and in the research of the social group of scientists.
