Iconography of St. Blasius of Sebaste in Russian North\'s Folk Culture in the 14-16 cc.

This study examine the cult of St. Blasius, the patron saint of lifestock. I draw on icons, hagiography and ethnography to show the role of visual in conformation of St. Blasius’s cult in popular sphere.. The research argue that the image of Blasius in village’s popular culture differs from its canonical treating. The visual image of the Saint was connected with specific needs of a village and real practices of venerating St. Blasius. The results of this research help to thicken perceptions about popular culture, as well as investigate connection between religious culture and everyday life of Russian medieval age.
