For a long time, censorship was considered a necessary measure of control in the media in order to convey certain values and attitudes to the audience, as well as to preserve political stability: many studies reveal the importance of social control for the individual in society. Now the era of free and publicly available information has come. The censorship is prohibited, however, there are still cases of restrictions on freedom of speech in social networks and media. The purpose of this study is to define the scope of the concept of censorship in the modern society. And to identify the characteristics of the legitimate perception of restrictions on freedom of speech on the part of the audience, since in the media space there are often contradictions when the representation of restrictions on freedom of speech in the media is perceived positively and is accompanied by the approval of society, although in society it is customary to condemn censorship and get rid of it as a relic of the past. With the help of several in-depth interviews, we will find factors that can influence the reaction to a particular demonstration of censorship in the media, as well as shape attitudes towards it.
