The study examines the role of non-profit organizations in the prevention of social orphanhood - a social phenomenon characterized by the presence of children in the society who have biological parents or blood relatives, but for some reason they do not care about the child. The work uses the ecosystem approach of U. Bronfenbrenner, much attention is paid to the study of the positions of non-profit organizations in relation to the family faced with problems. The research follows the main problems of the families that lead to the social orphanhood, studies in detail the activities of non-profit organizations in Russia, the reasons for public trust in non-profit organizations, the interaction of the government and non-profit organizations, the social capital of non-profit organizations, and analyzed the features of public discourse on this topic. To complete the tasks, 11 expert interviews were conducted with the experts from non-profit organizations. The implementation of the interview was made possible thanks to the National Fund for the Protection of Children from Abuse within the framework of the project "Support for the implementation of best practices for the prevention of social orphanhood" (headed by A.M. Spivak) with the use of a grant from the President of the Russian Federation for the development of civil society provided by the Presidential Grants Fund.
