Translation Strategies of E.A. Suritz in Working with the Tales of Roald Dahl

This research is dedicated to the analysis of the translation strategies of Elena Alexandrovna Suritz in working with the tales of Roald Dahl. The main purpose is to study the linguistic and stylistic features of translations of Dahl’s tales and to identify a set of E. Suritz’s translation methods and techniques. In the course of the research, we consider the specifics of translating children's literature, analyze the features of the fairy tales of Roald Dahl and also compare the original texts with the translations made by E. Suritz. This research uses as materials the texts: “Fantastic Mr. Fox”, “The Magic Finger”, “James and the Giant Peach”, “The Giraffe and Pelly and me”. All the text fragments were carefully analyzed, taking into account the sources on the theory of translation. As a result of the study, we found that Elena Suritz prefers to combine the strategy of domestication with preservation of Roald Dahl’s poetics, which allows her to bring the representation of the initial text closer to the culture of the recipient — the Russian-speaking child-reader.
