The Oedipus Complex Manifestation in Psychodynamic Organizational Consulting

This research is devoted to the study of the problematic of unconscious processes manifestations and the Oedipus complex in particular within the framework of a formal organization, identified using the methods of psychodynamic approach in business consulting. The objectives of the research were: to analyze foreign theoretical works and practical research on this issue; to perform a diagnostics of a private Russian company using the methods of the psychodynamic approach; to demonstrate the role of unconscious dynamics in the organization functioning specifics, focusing on the manifestations of the Oedipus complex as a source of dysfunction in this organization, based on the analysis and diagnostics performed; to show business value of the psychodynamic approach in organizational consulting. Among the theoretical tasks of the research was the analysis of S. Freud psychoanalytical theory and the works of his followers on the concept of the Oedipus complex, its manifestations in various spheres of an individual's life and its development in new forms of family relations; the study of the psychodynamic approach development stages and the current methods that allow us to see the relationship between individual and group unconscious processes in the organization. Among the empirical tasks of the study was to perform a diagnostics of a private Russian company using the psychodynamics approach methods; analyze each stage of diagnostics in order to identify the connection between individual and group unconscious processes. As a result of this work we have identified, how the unconscious dynamics of an organization reflects individual unconscious processes of its members. We were also able to identify the relationship between the symptoms manifested and the essential problems existing in the company. Within the framework of a particular family company, we saw the manifestation of the Oedipus complex at different levels, unfolding a case to illustrate the interrelation between the unconscious and objective reality. Finally, the organizational structure and business processes transformation recommendations as well as the development of key managers of the company proposed as a result of the research demonstrated the value of the psychodynamic approach in organizational consulting as such.
