Perfectionistic Attitudes of a Narcissistic Personality

Student: Khaibulina Albina

Faculty: Faculty of Social Sciences

Educational Programme: Psychology (Bachelor)

Year of Graduation: 2021

There is an increasing concern for a perfectionism-narcissism link, however, a significant part of researchers do not take into account the complex structure of narcissism. As a result, knowledge concerning their connection is limited. In addition, the relationship between types of narcissism and academic success is still unknown. Based on the knowledge from the literature analysis, an empirical study was developed in order to determine the differences in the perfectionistic attitudes of narcissistic personalities. The tasks were following: to analyze the psychological literature on the relationship between narcissism and perfectionist attitudes, as well as their relationship with academic success; to conduct differential diagnostics for narcissism indications (vulnerable and grandiose types of narcissism) and perfectionistic attitudes; to establish a connection between narcissism indications, perfectionistic attitudes, and academic success; to identify differences in academic success and perfectionistic attitudes among students with indications of the narcissistic type. As a result, differences were found in the perfectionistic attitudes of the narcissistic personality, but not in academic performance.
