Recently, more firms try to integrate sustainability into their business strategies and operations because of the increasing importance of social and environmental issues for society. The adoption and integration of sustainable business practices within the companies’ activities may improve the overall business performance as it helps to obtain various long-term competitive advantages such as brand awareness and brand loyalty, the attraction of highly qualified employees, bringing more financial and non-financial benefits for a firms’ suppliers and partners, more efficient interactions with governmental regulators and investors. Nevertheless, currently Russian companies still have low engagement in sustainability business practices compared to their foreign competitors. Moreover, it should be noted that emerging markets including Russia are less studied from the point of view of corporate sustainable development. Revealing the drivers of such engagement can help to understand the conditions necessary for Russian firms to be involved in corporate sustainability. This understanding can improve the companies’ engagement in sustainable business practices and to obtain more competitive advantages in the long-term period. This project highlights sustainable business practices in Russian companies and is intended to reveal drivers for their engagement in these practices. This goal is achieved by employing quantitative methods. For investigating the drivers of Russian companies’ engagement in sustainable business practices we conducted an online survey with the top or middle managers of the firms under consideration who have been aware about strategic development of the company or the implemented sustainable development practices in their companies. The results were obtained with the use of descriptive statistics and correlation and regression analyses, conducted in IBM SPSS. The findings of the project can serve as a basis for guidelines for engagement practices of Russian companies in sustainable business. This engagement will help firms to improve their activities in the field of sustainable development, which will improve their overall performance.
