Dreams in Psychoanalysis

The purpose of this work is to review the main works of Sigmund Freud on the subject of dreams, as well as some of his contemporaries and followers. In the present study, first, the Freudian theory of dreams was studied, its place in general psychoanalysis was determined. Secondly, an attempt is made to find out whether modern research in the field of sleep has been able to make adjustments to the theories of Sigmund Freud. Third, sleep functions and their disturbance were considered. Fourth, the problem of the role of sleep in analytical therapy is touched upon. The paper establishes the connection of the need to tell dreams with intrapsychic communication between the Id, Ego and Super-Ego, or with interpersonal communication through such material, seeing in this the tendency of the psyche to restore integrity.
