Mechanisms for Ensuring Sustainable Development of Russian Regions

The work is devoted to the study of the concept of sustainable development in relation to regional socio-economic systems. The author studied the theoretical and methodological foundations of sustainable development. A comprehensive assessment of the sustainable development of the constituent entities of the Russian Federation was carried out on the basis of the assessment of three key areas: the economy, the social sphere and the environment. The rating of Russian regions was compiled based on the regional sustainable development index in 2019. The endogenous and exogenous factors of sustainable development of territorial systems and subjects of the Russian Federation in particular, as well as the nature of their relationship with the sustainable development index, have been determined. A content analysis of the strategies of socio-economic development of the constituent entities of the Russian Federation as key documents for planning long-term sustainable development has been carried out in order to take into account the 17 UN sustainable development goals. As a result, the author identified the directions for improving regional policy in the framework of ensuring sustainable development of the Russia's regions.
