The employment market is overfilled with dozens of different applicants, people try various approaches to extend the priority of application and payment. Some of them apply signaling theory to support their desired salary, but still, the range of salaries is enormous. The empirical base of the study is consists of data from HeadHunter (hh.ru) website for the year 2020. The analysis is based on a sample of people who apply for various managerial positions in Saint Petersburg. The purpose of this paper is to analyze the effects of education, skills, availability of additional education, work experience, age, and desire to relocate on salary expectation. Moreover, it is important to understand which factors influences the decision of stating salary in their resume. The analysis demonstrated that the level of education provides an increase in salary expectation among applicants. Moreover, additional education also rises potential employee payment expectations. The work experience in resume allows people to set their expectations higher with every extra year of experience. Another finding corresponds with the career start: individuals who started their career at a later age will ask for a bigger salary. The desire to relocate reflects on salary expectation, people will demand higher salaries if they are ready to move. Also, these results suggest that a potential gender gap exists even during resume creation state and males tend to expect a higher salary on average. Finally, it turned out that in the Russian labor market it is possible not only to apply foreign practices, but also to use research aimed at wages to analyze its expectations.
