Constraints on the Implementation of Infrastructurally Improved Corridors for Bus Routes in Russian Cities

Student: Ianishevskii Oleg

Supervisor: Pavel Zyuzin

Faculty: Faculty of Urban and Regional Development

Educational Programme: Transport Planning (Master)

Year of Graduation: 2021

This work is the first study of the constraints on the introduction of dedicated bands in Russia. The work was started while working on coursework in the first year. In the course of it, the planning applicability of the allocated lanes and the implementation of high-speed bus routes along them in the cities of Russia was studied using the example of Yaroslavl and Nizhny Novgorod. In the course of it, data were obtained on the supply and demand of buses in the studied cities. The calculation of the population density in the immediate vicinity of the corridors under study, the construction of the correspondence matrix, as well as the transport zoning of these two cities made it possible to conclude that the allocated lane and high-speed buses are applicable for most of the corridors of these cities. However, the research question remained unresolved, why this type of transport does not develop in the same way as the IUK on Shchorsa Street in Belgorod. In this regard, it was decided to study the constraints on the introduction of infrastructure-improved corridors in Russian cities.
