Equivariant Topology of Configuration Spaces of the Circle

This work was firstly inspired by Mostovoy's paper, where he showed Bott's construction proving that a space of non-empty finite subsets of circle of cardinality at most 3, denoted $exp_3(S^1)$ (and called potency space) is homeomorphic to $S^3$. And Schepin's theorem claims that the subspace of one-element subsets $exp_1(S^1)$ is a trefoil knot $K$ on that sphere. All such inclusions correspond to a moduli space of elliptic curves, which is, on the other hand obtained as the space of all lattices ($PSL(2, \mathbb{R})$) quotient by a discrete subgroup $PSL(2, \mathbb{Z})$. The question I was interested in is if there're some other examples, where this space arises. On the other hand, my main goal was to try to make a conjecture if it's possible to obtain some generalizations of connections between potency spaces of circle with more marked points and some moduli spaces.

Student Theses at HSE must be completed in accordance with the University Rules and regulations specified by each educational programme.

Summaries of all theses must be published and made freely available on the HSE website.

The full text of a thesis can be published in open access on the HSE website only if the authoring student (copyright holder) agrees, or, if the thesis was written by a team of students, if all the co-authors (copyright holders) agree. After a thesis is published on the HSE website, it obtains the status of an online publication.

Student theses are objects of copyright and their use is subject to limitations in accordance with the Russian Federation’s law on intellectual property.

In the event that a thesis is quoted or otherwise used, reference to the author’s name and the source of quotation is required.
