This research is devoted to the study of the polycode texts (PT) interpretation in the linguo-cognitive aspect. Polycode text is a coherent unit, in which message is encoded by means of different semiotic systems. The relevance of the study is explained by the growing interest of the modern information society in PT as a means of compressing information without losing meaning. The problem of perception and understanding of PT is associated with poorly studied aspects of sign integration, the fusion of structured and sensory-figurative knowledge in mental operations, as well as with the identification and study of the corresponding cognitive mechanisms of meaning formation. In order to study the process of interpretation, a detailed linguo-cognitive analysis was carried out on the material of multi-genre polycode texts: advertising texts, demotivational posters and works of fine art supplemented with a verbal component. The performed analysis reflected the specifics of the polycode texts interpretation from different sides. Regardless of the genre and the purpose of creating a PT, all the considered examples allow us to conclude that they obey the same principles of cognitive interpretation and demonstrate general patterns of meaning formation.
