This paper aims to investigate and describe the verbs of throwing in the Standard Arabic Language. The methodology of this study is based on the frame approach to lexical typology developed by the Moscow lexical typology group, which presupposes that “lexical meanings can be studied and reconstructed by observing the word's surroundings, primarily their collocation. Then, they can be compared by procedures similar to those used in grammatical typology” (Rakhilina, Reznikova 2016: 97). The Arabic language has a dominant system of verbs of throwing, some verbs are considered to be dominants while others are minors, i.e., used in a very restricted number of contexts. Still, this study aims to examine both sets of verbs with respect to their literal and metaphorical use within the Arabic Language contexts. The data will be collected from the Arabic Dictionaries and texts. In addition to it, the typological questionnaire with context-based stimuli will be delivered to a group of Arabic Language Speakers — educated adults who are able to use and understand these verbs in both the everyday language and formal contexts. The lexicalization patterns within the domain of throwing in Standard Arabic will be further considered in a cross-linguistic perspective, i.e., compared to the data coming from other languages, see Ivtushok 2015, Blinova 2018, among others.
