Languages of the Lezgic branch of the Nakh-Daghestanian language family have been affected by Azeri (< Oghuz < Turkic). This fact is proven by a number of works concerning Azeri influence on the Lezgic languages, both in lexicon (Abukarov 1997, Burzhumova 2006), and in grammar (Johanson 2006, Authier 2010a-c, Maisak 2016, Dobrushina 2017). Most Lezgic languages lie in the area of Dagestan which is adjacent to Azerbaijan. Some Lezgic languages are situated within Azerbaijan's political borders. In the study, I investigate contact-induced changes from Azeri in four Lezgic languages: Rutul, Tsakhur, Kryz and Udi. Rutul and Tsakhur varieties I consider are in Russian territory, while Kryz and Udi are spoken in Azerbaijan. I examine this factor along with other sociolinguistic parameters such as history and intensity of contact between languages. Firstly, I compile the list of the features presumably borrowed from Azeri in these languages (using grammar descriptions, corpora, and special papers). Secondly, I decide for every language in the sample, whether these features may result from contact with Azeri. The aim is to create an index of Azeri influence and explain it in terms of sociolinguistic parameters. This will help to investigate the connection between sociolinguistic conditions and grammar change.
