Gastronomic Industry as an Urban Public Actor

Student: borisova vladislava

Faculty: Faculty of Social Sciences

Educational Programme: Complex Social Analysis (Master)

Year of Graduation: 2022

The gastronomic industry is traditionally understood as an economic agent associated with consumer services. However, in recent years we can observe how the industry has become a political agent: it demonstrates the ability to defend rights and interests, the possibility of consolidation, becomes one of the mechanisms, levers of influence on the government – however, this role remains unexplored. The present work is devoted to the study of the supposed role of the gastronomic industry as an agent in the public urban environment in the process of formation of urban citizenship, and an attempt is also made to identify the intermediary function in the process of interaction of industry representatives between citizens and city authorities. With the help of thematic analysis of mass media and blogs in social networks, we tried to reconstruct the chronology of restrictive measures, as well as to analyze the relationship between the measures introduced and the way the institution is positioned in relation to the authorities and visitors.
