This study investigated adolescent alcohol behavior and its relationship to such variables as parental monitoring, adolescent parental relationship level, and adolescent depression. The data were taken from a longitudinal project in which the behavior of students of St. Petersburg vocational schools was investigated. In total, the study presents four structural models explaining the alcohol behavior of adolescents in the case of simple drinking and in the case of binge drinking (drinking a large amount of alcohol at a time). SEM (Structural equation modeling) was the main analysis technique in the work. The relationships in the models are based on the theory of the influence of parents and depression on the alcohol behavior of adolescents. The models explain a sufficient proportion of the variance in alcohol behavior and showing good fit indices. The scales used in the analysis have also been tested for measurement invariance and are valid for use in longitudinal analyses.
