Golden HSE: How to Nominate Candidates

Golden HSE: How to Nominate Candidates

The large number of Golden HSE nominations presents an opportunity for HSE staff and student associations to participate in the nomination process. Most importantly, you must do this before December 7. Some information on the nomination process is provided below.

Step One - find a good candidate and a suitable nomination

This is perhaps the most important, and, at the same time, easiest aspect of the process. Each of us knows at least one person at HSE, who deserves to be nominated for an award thanks to their professionalism, talent, hard work or positive attitude. They may be a remarkable researcher or teacher, a distinguished professor or student, a highly capable administrative staff member, or a successful graduate. Don’t worry! There are enough nominations for everyone.

The Golden HSE is awarded in 10 nominations, and for only one of them, Friend of HSE, the list of candidates is made by the contest jury. As for other nominations, all HSE employees are free to express their opinions.

Step Two - find like-minded people

HSE’s departments and student associations from all of its regional campuses have the right to nominate candidates in most of the nominations. At the same time, individual employees also have this right, if they form an initiative group of at least three people. In the case of Silver Nestling, an initiative group may consist of only two persons.

Step Three - prepare a rationale

It’s always nice to get compliments, and especially sincere commendations. With this in mind, you’ll need to write down (or, better to say, print) all your nice words that about your candidate. This shouldn’t be a formal record. All we actually need is no more than two pages of text, in which you describe not only the well-known and little-known achievements of your candidate, but also your personal opinions and emotions. The rationale should be attached to the application on the HSE website (please see next step).

Still not sure what your rationale should look like? We’ve chosen several examples for you - here and here.

Step Four - fill in the application

You must complete the application on the Golden HSE website before December 7. You can also simply click the links below.

The application forms are standardized and very simple - you only have to tick several points on the questionnaire. However, please note that some nominations feature specific points.

For example, for the University Teacher’s Success nomination, you must indicate one of the five areas, in which a talented teacher works.

For the Achievement in Research nomination, you must choose one of the three sciences groups, in which your candidate carries out his/her research work.

The Alumni Success nomination includes two categories, according to two career tracks chosen by HSE graduates - academic and professional.

The Golden Person nomination includes four awards (depending on the administrative or utility services unit where the attentive colleague works).

For the new Best Book nomination, as it’s clear from the title, you need to suggest a specific publication written by a candidate. This may be an academic book, a textbook (and not only published at HSE), a scholarly piece of political journalism, or a digital publication.

The Contribution to the Development of HSE is one of the oldest Golden HSE nominations and it usually brings attention to staff members who have long participated not simply in the university’s activities, but also its development and progress.

At the same time, the Best Expert nomination is quite new. We are thrilled to find out who will be the first to be nominated for it.

For the Silver Nestling nominations, HSE teachers and researchers can nominate their students.

Step Five - share your comments

The names of candidates and short rationales for their nominations are published on the award website. The website also includes discussions about all candidates. Don’t forget to participate! Your input will help the jury make the right choice.

Step Six - meet the winners

After all applications are collected, short lists of candidates will be put together for each nomination (except for Silver Nestling). The lists will be published on December 11. The prizes in all nominations will be awarded at the Grand Golden HSE Ceremony, which will be held on December 20 at the ZIL Cultural Centre. Be sure to mark down Tuesday evening and come to Avtozavodskaya to celebrate with the winners. There are no accidental winners! Your active participation in the nominations is the best guarantee of that.

Some more information about the award is available in this news text.

If you still have any questions or problems with the application process, please contact Elena Velikaya (elenavelikaya@hse.ru) or Olga Kosareva (okosareva@hse.ru).
