The Great HSE Festivities: What Is There to Look Forward to?

The Great HSE Festivities: What Is There to Look Forward to?

We’ve been extremely busy celebrating our anti-versary: we’ve published books, been for a run in the park, masterminded special projects and organized conferences. But that was only the lead-up to the main event: the Great HSE Festivities week - the culmination of all our celebratory efforts.

When’s it happening?

We kick things off on November 27 – in case you’ve already forgotten, this happens to be our university’s birthday.

We wind things up on December 1 with the presentation of the Golden HSE awards.

What lies in store?

Firstly, a completely unexpected event – the grand meeting of the Academic Council. The HSE Rector will speak about who we are, where we’re going and what we’re striving for - something that we all like to hear about. The programme also includes congratulatory messages from HSE’s friends. It’ll probably be followed by a discussion, seeing as the Academic Council never misses an opportunity to discuss such displays of grandeur.

The grand meeting (like any meeting of the Academic Council) is open to the public. Places are likely to fill up early, but never fear: you can always stream it live from the comfort of your sofa or your office chair.

The broadcast will be available on the main hse.ru page.

When: November 27, 11am

This will be followed by the HSE Anniversary Night: the main event for students, staff and graduates.

The Student Initiative Support Centre, Ingroup StS, and our PR Office have teamed up to put together a massive night of games, dancing, workshops and performances. The full programme has turned out to be longer than the list of all our educational programmes, so there’ll undoubtedly something for everyone! The celebration will take place in two lofts at the same time: Loft #2 and Loft #3, not far from the Avtozavodskaya metro station.

Everything will begin, as it should at a national research university, with science, namely, with the epic Research Battle Finals. By this time, the main entertainment locations will be open to HSE students and staff. After the winner of the Research Battle is declared, the student festival ‘Night’ will begin and will last – that’s right- all night, wrapping up at 6am. On the main stage we’ll be hosting a talk show, a dance show, theatre performances and cinematic presentations. The small stage will offer a few treats to those who love standup comedy, acoustic music, and science experiments. If you want to take a break from the world of Great Festivities, we can transport you to another world entirely at our planetarium or at our virtual reality attraction. We can’t list all the activities on offer here, but take it from us that you won’t get bored.

When: 5pm, November 27 – Opening of the Anniversary Night and Research Battle Finals;

8pm – The student festival ‘Night’ kicks off. Ticketed admission only. International students can get their tickets to the HSE Anniversary Night at the International Student Support Office.

And last, but by no means least, we’ll be presenting our university awards at the Golden HSE ceremony. We have the same number of awards to hand out as we did last year, but this time around we have many more nominees. Needless to say, the jury and committee have had their work cut out for them in making the final decisions.

The anti-versary ceremony is a “back-to-front” event. It will begin with a buffet and official welcome, and then we’ll continue with the award ceremony. While we’re all enjoying the delights of the buffet, the floor will be open to anyone who wishes to congratulate the university, its staff or its students. Toasts, songs, poems, dances – anything goes. So get your thinking cap on and start preparing!

When: 6pm, December 1

Ticketed admission only; click here to find out how to get yours.

After the Golden HSE ceremony, everyone will be able to take a breather. But keep in mind that the year isn’t out, which means that the conferences, special projects, book launches, and other activities will continue. Watch this space for more exciting events!
