Elizaveta Lobanova a participant of the 5th Russian-Chinese workshop for the young academic elite

Elizaveta Lobanova, a first-year master student majoring in Socio-Economic and Political Development of Modern Asia, became a participant of the fifth Russian-Chinese workshop for the young academic elite devoted to the state building, new models of relations between the major states of the international arena and new global order.

The workshop was held in Eastern Normal Chinese University (China, Shanghai) in conjunction with the School of Advanced International and Regional Studies from November 3 to 10 2018. Young researchers not only from Russia and China were participating in this event, there were also representatives of the United States, Canada and Norway - 31 people in general. The workshop included lectures and discussions with leading world experts on various topics, city tours, and a trip to Hangzhou, which allowed participants to make not only academic but also cultural exchange, to learn more about charming China and gain an unforgettable useful experience. The working language of the conference was English.

The first day of the conference began with a lecture by Professor Shen Dingli about China's strategy in the field of international relations with major powers with Chinese characteristics. The professor revealed the historical background of the current policy, and also highlighted the main current trends. The topic of the first lecture was continued by Professor Yu Bin, he told the audience about the new international liberal order from the standpoint of Russia and China. Professor Li Jing completed the first lecture day with an interesting speech on the transfer of research results from universities to government institutions in China. The participants also learned more about Russian-Chinese relations from Professor Bordachev, about the role of energy in international relations from Professor Vasilyev, Professor Dudkevich focused on hegemony, and Professor Mellemvik concluded the workshop with his unusual lecture on possible challenges regarding the Arctic region.

Elizaveta presented her university with dignity, attended all the lectures, actively participated in discussions, asked questions and gave comments on the topics under discussion. In addition, she was able to use not only the English skills, but also Chinese. Elizaveta established contacts with representatives of various countries and universities and gained a unique experience of participating in an international event. She hopes to continue to keep in touch with the participants, as well as to use the acquired skills in her future research.
