We would like to invite you to the second meeting of HSE cognitive seminar. Assistant Professor of School of Psychology W. Joseph MacInnes will present a talk titled "Top down control of exogenous attention".

Abstract:

Exogenous attention is typically described as automatic, externally driven and bottom-up.  In the classic Posner cuing paradigm, it is measured as an improvement to reaction time following a spatial onset in peripheral vision.  Recent challenges to this interpretation have suggested new interpretations to its automaticity as well as its interpretation as a purely attentional effect.  I will present a number of new experiments looking at how exogenous cuing effects are modulated by top-down attentional set using a variety of techniques including:  a new temporal cuing paradigm, the anti-saccade task and diffusion models.

The meeting will be held on May, 11th, at 18:00. The meeting will be held at School of Psychology building (46b Volgogradsky Prospekt, Tekstilshiki metro station), room 227.
