An interview with a first-year student of the program Zheng Gong

Our 1st year student Zheng Gong shared her experience on our program

An interview with a first-year student of the program Zheng Gong

- Why did you choose the program “Cognitive sciences and technologies: from neuron to cognition”?

I encountered this program on line when I was searching for a research-oriented Master’s program that offer research topics in Neuroeconomics, and this one was among the very few choices I could found. I had a general background in psychology and cognitive neuroscience, and wanted to do research in Neuroscience of Decision Making (Neuroeconomics). I realised this program could offer me all the methods and tools I need for my future research, and the faculty here is doing cutting edge world-class researches with international collaboration, that’s why I applied to it.

- What advantages do you see in our program?

The desire that the whole faculty members want to help their students to achieve their best, and the motivation that this program is striving to become one of the best in the world. After one month of studying here, I have observed that all our lecturers have devoted a lot on teaching us well. I can easily reach to them and get more than enough support from them. I also know that the course structure in the program are improving every year to give their students almost every skills they will need for their research, and you can even get more personal knowledge background after you talk to your lecturers. It is rare to see a Master’s program offering so much to their students, and as an alumni of University of London and East China Normal University, I think it is fair for me to say this.

- What are your scientific interests?

Recently, I am generally interested in Decision Making (from perceptual decision making to value-based decision-making), and the philosophical questions related to free will. But as such a broad field Decision Making is, my scientific interest could extend to emotion, cooperation, game theory, and so on.

- What is Life in Moscow?

So far so exciting. As someone who loves music and art, Moscow is definitely a place you should visit! The main HSE buildings are located in the centre of Moscow, surrounded by many theatres, museums, parks and other fancy places for entertaining. Having a stroll to the Red Square is what I usually do after an exam or a test, and planing to visit all the nearby museums is what I am only dreaming about right now (after one month arrived in Moscow) but haven’t found time to do so.
