HSE Students in All Fields of Study Can Now Choose Exchange Programmes in China

HSE and East-China Normal University (ECNU) have signed a new student exchange agreement expanding the range of opportunities for student mobility in all areas of studies, including social studies, humanities, and philosophy, as well as computer science, mathematics, and physics. The agreement was signed as part of the visit of ECNU delegation headed by Tong Shijun, chairman of the ECNU University Council.

The agreement envisions the participation of up to four students from each side every year, but this number may increase in future. The exchange participants will be able to spend one semester at the partner university and attend any courses they offer. In addition to studying courses offered by HSE, Chinese students will be able to learn Russian at the HSE Russian Language Centre. The agreement will come into effect in the 2017/18 academic year.

East-China Normal University has cooperated with HSE since 2011. At first a student exchange agreement was signed between the HSE Faculty of World Economy and International Affairs and the ECNU School of Advanced International and Area Studies (SAIAS). This agreement remains in force. In addition to ECNU, HSE also has partner agreements with 14 other Chinese universities.

This year, 25 students from the People’s Republic of China are studying various HSE undergraduate and master’s courses, and over 30 Chinese students participated in short-term programmes at HSE in 2016. ECNU students regularly participate in the International Russian-Chinese Summer School on International Affairs held jointly by the HSE Faculty of World Economy and International Affairs and East-China Normal University. This year’s School was dedicated to the role of institutions in a new architecture of global governance, and attracted 9 students from ECNU. The school has become the focal point for an active community of people interested in Chinese and Russian studies. It also helps Chinese and Russian experts find joint approaches to solving international problems.

More detailed information on exchange opportunities with ECNU will be available from International Student Support as soon as information on the university is published in the study abroad programme catalogue.
