Banking institute HSE was responsible for 4 panels of the XIX April International Academic Conference On Economic and Social Development

On April 10th the Banking institute held round table on Banking regulation as a part of  XIX April International Academic Conference On Economic and Social Development. Solodkov Vasily, director of Banking institute was moderating the event.

In the conference took part Sven Redel, representative of Bundesbank in Russia,Gabriel di Bella, representative of IMF in Russia, Mikhail Matovnikov, CEO - chief analist of Sberbank, Alexey Lobanov, Head of Banking regulation department of the Central Bank  of the Russian Federation and Samu Kurri, financial regulator in Finland.

 

The participants discussed banking regulation issues, new standards of banking regulation system,fintech penetration to banking services, macroeconomics.

 

Gabriel di Bella was the first speaker and he reported about 3 dimensions of banking regulation. He stressed that governmental regulating methods should be applied very carefully and all the processes should be transparent and clear as far as possible. Regarding the market monitoring and information disclosure rules will be more helpful for small shareholders and debt holders. Capital regulation may depend on many factors and make an impact on allocation of credit,  its risk profile and economic growth.

 

Sven Redel shared with his opinion on banking sector status in Germany. The colleague from Finland, Samu Kurri noticed that it is necessary to distinguish regulator`s points of view, risks and uncertainties as far as the former is to be estimated by quantitative method the latter is problematic to estimate.

 

Alexey Lobanov instructed on new standards of banking regulation in future. Mikhail Matovnikov, chief analist of Sberbank examined the reasons of financial crisis in Russia and provided with statistics on it, evaluated contribution of Central Bank of Russia and government role in banking sector.

 

All the reports were informative and beneficial for all in attendance. After the round table the audience asked questions to professional figures.
