Lecture on the Activities of the Russian Arbitration Center at the Russian Institute of Modern Arbitration

On 22 January 2026, students of the Master’s Programme in International Trade Law and Dispute Resolution at the Higher School of Economics attended a lecture at the Moscow office of the Russian Arbitration Center (RAC) at the Russian Institute of Modern Arbitration (RIMA).

Lecture on the Activities of the Russian Arbitration Center at the Russian Institute of Modern Arbitration

The RAC at RIMA is one of Russia’s leading arbitral institutions, administering disputes involving parties and arbitrators from around the world. During the lecture, participants learnt about RIMA’s key areas of development, its academic and educational initiatives, as well as the structure and advantages of the RAC as a modern arbitration center. In addition, students had the opportunity to analyse arbitration clauses under the guidance of experts.

Valeria Senatorova, CEO of RIMA, and Sergey Ivanov, Principal Counsel at RIMA delivered the lecture.

Following the main session, a Q&A took place, allowing participants to discuss current issues in arbitration practice, including the validity of arbitration clauses and common drafting errors, the prospects for mediation as an effective dispute resolution mechanism, and certain provisions of the Arbitration Rules 2021 (as amended November 01, 2021).

To conclude the visit, participants toured the Library of the International and Comparative Law Research Center (ICLRC) and familiarised themselves with its activities. The library is open to all those interested in public and private international law, international arbitration, and comparative legal studies. Its collection features classic works as well as contemporary research by Russian and foreign scholars in various languages.

We express our gratitude to the team of the Russian Arbitration Center at the Russian Institute of Modern Arbitration for organising the lecture and hope that the knowledge acquired will help students gain a deeper understanding of international arbitration and prove valuable in their future professional endeavours.
